Punta Cana to Pedernales

Punta Cana to Pedernales

There aren't many articles about this, so I thought I'd create it and make it brief.

If you want to get from Punta Cana to Pedernales, it's not simple, but these are the steps:

Step 1 - Go to Bavaro Express main office in Bavaro and take a bus to Santo Domingo (https://goo.gl/maps/eybQj5VeHYZKPsqT8) - there is a satellite office in Veron, but you might not be lucky in terms of seats available. Arrive an hour before the bus leaves. Times are available on the Bavaro Express site.

Step 2 - Go to Caribe Tours office in Santo Domingo and get a bus to Barahona (https://goo.gl/maps/oajaKym5s6pZqwMj6)

Step 3 - Get a 'guagua' which is a local small minibus, crammed with people, for about 3 hours. Go to this exact location (https://goo.gl/maps/4ye5MrW4jVMMXhhKA) and there will be a sign on the front of the Guagua saying Pedernales. If you ask any bus driver, they'll point you to the right place anyway.

More info:

  • Each leg of the journey takes about 3 hours.
  • The Bavaro Express and Caribe Tours buses are very comfortable and have toilets.
  • The guagua is not comfortable, but the one I used had air conditioning at least.
  • You will get harrassed by taxi and motorbike drivers before you even leave the buses, they block the door trying to get a fare.

You might be visiting Pedernales for a few reasons:

  • To visit Bahía de las Águilas
  • To cross the border to Haiti
  • To visit Cabo Rojo
  • To visit Los Patos

Prices:

  • Punta Cana - Santo Domingo = $450 (DOP)
  • Santo Domingo - Barahona = $350 (DOP)
  • Barahona - Pedernales = $350 (DOP)
